American Lung Association's Helping Smoker's Quit: Tobacco Cessation Coverage 2011

Evalu8 Data presents information from the National Business Coalition on Health’s 2008 Evalu8 survey (the PowerPoint presentation was created in 2009). This report represents coverage information from over 150 health plans nationally. Specifically, slides 8, 10 and 13 show the large variance in tobacco cessation benefits among plans.

Coverage of Tobacco Cessation Treatments, Wisconsin 2006. a survey conducted in 2006 by the University of Wisconsin Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention of all the health plans in Wisconsin.

Oklahoma Insurance Department Survey. Current as of September 22, 2010, this survey of health plans in Oklahoma, conducted by the University of Oklahoma, shows that offerings are different across the board, and most are minimal.  

Sanford Health Plan. This plan provides an example of a small-to-mid sized insurance company’s tobacco cessation coverage. There are notable restrictions on access to their benefit – once per lifetime and the patient will only be reimbursed for the costs of treatment if they prove that they quit. 

New York Survey. This is anecdotal survey conducted in 2011 of five major health plans in NY, plus a health plan for a large union.

NC Preventive Benefits Profile. NC Prevention Partners’ website containing current information on the preventive benefits provided by each health plan in the state.
